Possibility of CommissionsStill alive! Anyway, an open question to my watchers on here (I know you're out there somewhere): I'm trying to do a bit of market research, so to speak, about the possibility of opening commissions. So, bearing in mind that I would be working for cash, (pounds sterling, £), not DA points, my questions are as follows:
A) If I were to open commissions, how many of you would consider buying one?
B) I'm aiming to get a fair price for my time and effort without pricing myself out of the young market I think form my main audience, so how much would you be prepared to buy for work of the following kinds of complexity or completion? Going in descending order of time spent, here:
Full colour, with a background (albeit not a wildly detailed background, as I'm not very good at them), e.g. Wasteland Warrior.Full colour, more complex shading, but without a proper background, e.g.
RefresherAgain, as much to change the entry on the front page as anything else. So, a few big things that've happened in the last year:
- Graduated university with a 2:1 in Environmental Geoscience
- Acquired, played and beat Assassin's Creed I and II
- Dad adopted both a new dog and a new baby
- Both parents turned 55
- Had a few job interviews
- Learned to moonwalk properly.
Advice for CeilidhsThis is mostly because my DA journal hasn't been updated in literally more than a year, and I figured I should finally get that SOPA entry off the front page. XD
The university's annual Geological Society Spring Ball was last night, and as usual I attended. Dress code was, I suppose, technically formal wear but the event never ends up being particularly formal - 160+ students and as much alcohol as people can afford isn't an arrangement that lends itself to a formal evening. It's always a ceilidh, which must be a bit of an odd experience for the first-timers - there were about as many people on the dancefloor with no idea what they were doing as there were people who knew every dance by heart.
There are a few things to bear in mind at a ceilidh - or at least, every ceilidh I've ever been to:
- Nobody cares who you dance with. Most dances were devised with even numbers of men and women in mind, but in practise nobody ever bats an eyelid if the ratio is skewed one way or another.
A Literary EveningSo.
A bit more than a month ago, my mum was walking back from dropping some DVDs off at the Blockbusters down at Tollcross, and spotted a wee poster in the window of the Edinburgh Bookshop, an independent one near Holy Corner (not a huge premises, but a pretty good selection if you're ever in the area). It was advertising 'An Evening with Neil Gaiman' - tickets £10 each, including £5 off a book bought at the event.
A couple of hours ago, said evening took place. The whole event's been Tweeted here, but I wanted to give my own account nonetheless. I showed up a little too early; in the hopes of finding a good seat, I'd arrived before almost everyone else, possibly including Mr Gaiman. They opened the doors at about 7.20. I was there by 6.55, but it turned out for the best because I'd brought my sketchbook.
It started off with a reading. He read out one of his short stories, Chivalry, about an old lady who finds th
Cutting BackOK, I know I haven't been particularly active on here anyway, but I'm posting to say that I'm going to try and cut back on the amount of time I spend online. I've been having some anxiety problems and I'm hoping that heading out into the real world some more will help to get rid of them.
Also, I wanted to get rid of that entry that's been on my front page since November.
Writing SurveyStole this from katanisk. Thought it might be fun to give it a whirl.
1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that youve worked with and why.
My favourite universe is probably a toss-up between Steamworld (where Cally, Sarkany and co. live) and Mythworld, where the manticores and the Crowbacks live. Steamworld because it combines my loves of airships, alternate history and dragons, and Mythworld because its definitely the one that Ive done most work with worldbuilding-wise. Not counting my fanfiction, Steamworld is the only universe I write in where Ive actually managed to finish anything longer than a short story.
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
The answer to the first question is way too many to list. But if were going to talk in terms of main characters rather than the enormous casts that follow them, lets see
Thom, Flix, Cally, Sarkany, Kelvin, Clyde
'Nother MemeMan, I've really got out of the habit of updating this thing. Stuff that I've done, to avoid this being another purely meme-related entry:
- Passed all my first-year exams at Edinburgh University.
- Went on a three-day city break to Budapest. My Hungarian has now progressed from 'non-existent' to 'broken and limited'.
- Went up north for a week because the Hong Kong cousins were over visiting. They've got a great holiday house on the beach in Goslpie, which would be perfect were it not for all the midgies.
- Began levelling my warrior again on World of Warcraft, and got made a guild master when the leader of my guild left. However, none of the other members has come online in four months, so I'm pretty much a one-woman guild right now, and that suits me down to the ground.
- Went to see the Penny Dreadfuls in the Fringe.
Anyway. Got featured in a meme by katanisk; you know the drill, comment and
Feature Meme Or Summin'OK,so :iconkatanisk: featured me in her journal. I don't usually do these things, but I think such things should be paid back.
Here's how this works. First 9 people who comment get featured after Kit. I pick four works from your gallery that I like and feature them after, but then you have to do this as well.
You'll... have to click the links to see them as I have no idea how to insert pictures into my journal.
(not including the ones I commissioned 'cos that's kind of cheating.)
This is a wonderfully atmospheric piece; the blues and greys really get the sort of misty, urban effect across and I like how the birds' eyes stand out from the rest. Also, I feckin' love crows.
I can't quite put my finger on what so appeals to me about this one, but the detail on the big demon's face is fantastic.

I’ve realized over the years that I can’t draw everything myself, and I’ve damaged my hands by trying to draw all of my comics on my own. My followers are always asking when the next chapter of Fisheye Placebo or Knite is coming out, and it always pains me to say not yet. I can’t draw for more than a few hours a day now before the pain sets in.
I’m still determined to finish the comics I started, but I know I’m going to need help. I’ve been dabbling in 3D backgrounds for Fisheye Placebo, but I still had to build them myself, which is very time consuming and damaging to my hands in different ways.
I’ve been thinking a lot and I want to move my comic creating techniques to the next level and incorporate both 3D characters and 3D backgrounds. I’m not the most skilled when it comes to 3D programs, and I don’t have the time or health to create all the models myself, so I am looking
How to get Popular as an Artist (EDIT)EDIT: Sooooo, this journal definitely proved my thoughts and point. Congratulations to myself, this is ironically my most popular journal on my DA.
NOW! I want to clear something first as many people seem to be mistaking and sort of bashing in the comments. People who do this type of content are not bad nor should be shamed. That is, if you really enjoy doing this type of content, there is nothing wrong drawing your favorite characters, wolves, cats, sexual content, tutorials, ect. (minus the drama... like seriously, this world needs less of that). I'm just a WEEE BIT tired of seeing young people and people that do art go straight into doing this because they get more noticed or this is the only way to get anywhere. They complain or abandon their passion/love that isn't 'oh so popular' (because it doesn't have advertisements/a pre-built fanbase, or a giant movie/tv show/game behind it) and move into something else that is trending just so they can be noticed. I know you want feedback.

Updates as of October2009: Missing Halloween's story was created. Discontinued.
2010: Attempted to rework in 3D. Failed. Discontinued.
2013: Revived and started the animation production. Didn't reach Halloween. Hiatus.
2014: Resumed and held a contest. Didn't reach Halloween. Hiatus.
2015: Resumed. Missing Halloween didn't miss Halloween!
For the past month, me and Negyek were hard at work, day and night, to finish Missing Halloween. Later on, Procrastacat and VenBright were hired to give various voices for the ending scene. All of these are, of course, paid jobs, thanks to my Patreon supporters.
By November 29, the animation is officially done. All 8+ minutes of it.
The 'FNAF Sister Location' Anti-Hate RantOK, so everyone should have seen Scott's new teaser by now.
I was not going to write about this originally (so forgive me for rushing this journal), since I figured that literally everyone knows about the news by now, but the way people are announcing it and reacting to it disturbs me. I thought we were better than this, but I guess not.
Literally everywhere I go today, everyone I've seen is spamming memes like and saying that Scott is milking the series and beating a dead horse. Even people who have "left" the FNAF fandom and have decided to pop back in just to put in their discouraging, even hating, opinions. It's so bad, that I feel people are hating JUST because it has become cool to hate, as some kind of herd mentality.
Well guess what? It doesn't matter what anyone thinks! Scott is clearly going to do what Scott is going to do! The amount of hate th
